he Avionika Moscow Research and Production Complex JSC (MNPK Avionika) is one of the leading Russian aircraft instrument-making enterprises. The company is involved in the development and production of various flight control and navigation equipment and a wide range of instrument components.
Established in 1942 as a state-run enterprise, Avionika was incorporated as an open joint stock company in February 1994.
Over 55 years of operations, Avionika's vast research potential and proficient personnel enabled it to develop a wide pallet of avionics systems for over 200 types of Russian military and civil fixed wing aircraft, helicopters, RPVs, air-to-air and air-to-surface missiles.
Many Avionika advanced developments became milestones in the history of the domestic instrument-making industry. Avionika's "firsts" include:
- the first electromechanical autopilots for airplanes, helicopters and RPVs;
- the first VTOL automatic control systems and terrain-following/obstacle avoidance systems;
- the first automatic flight control systems;
- the first ICAO Category III instrumental landing systems for passenger aircraft and ILS for shipboard aircraft;
- the first digital avionics suites and automatic and fly-by-wire aircraft control systems;
- the first aircraft fly-by-wire control systems;
- the first engine thrust-vectoring control systems and spin prevention and recovery systems;
- the first sidestick control column.
Currently, continuing the best traditions of past years, the company develops and produces equipment for all classes of aircraft in the following profiles:
- fly-by-wire systems;
- autopilots and integrated automatic flight, engine thrust and thrust-vectoring control systems;
- integrated digital flight control and navigation
systems;
- cockpit pressure regulation systems;
- mass and CG position measuring systems;
- ground flight simulators.
Avionika also develops and manufactures a wide range of unified instrument elements used not only in aviation, but in many other military and civilian industry sectors:
- low and medium-capacity electromechanical and electro-pneumatic drives for the executive mechanisms of general-purpose industrial automatic systems and vehicle control systems;
- selsyns and sine-cosine transformers;
- angular and linear motion sensors;
- DC and AC micromotors;
- special-purpose digital computers;
- tensometric and sidestick control columns.
The high international rating of Russian combat and trainer aircraft, such as the Sukhoi Su-27, Su-30, Su-34, Mikoyan MiG-29, MiG-AT, etc., has to a great extent been ensured by their highly capable avionics systems. For example, the
Su-37 employs the first domestically developed integrated fly-by-wire system with sidestick control column, which incorporates engine thrust-vectoring control and automatic spin recovery functions.
Simultaneously with military-related products, Avionika also develops equipment for various civil airliners, commuters, helicopters and multipurpose general aviation aircraft. For example, work has recently begun on the Beriev Be-200, Tupolev Tu-324, Tu-330 aircraft, Ansat helicopter and several light planes. The performance of these aircraft meets all international standards, as well as the most stringent customer and operator requirements.
Avionika JSC is a research and production complex able to provide the complete R&D and production cycle, including:
- design, manufacture and all types of ground and flight tests of prototype equipment in simulated and real operational environment;
- equipment certification according to Russian and international quality standards;
- series production, repair and after-sale services of supplied equipment.
High product quality and reliability are ensured by original know-how, state-of-the-art technologies, CAD/CAM systems, indigenous applications software, the right choice of design and configuration solutions, as well as test facilities simulating the most critical operational conditions.
During Russia's transition to a market economy, Avionika has retained its leading position in the domestic aircraft instrument industry, which was confirmed by the official status of "Russian Economy Leader" conferred on the company in 1995.
To move its products to the international market and find foreign partners for joint ventures, Avionika participates in major international air shows and medical equipment exhibitions and offers:
- the development and production of control systems and software for any vehicles, as well as automatic system components according to customer's requirements;
- aircraft equipment modernization;
- joint ventures with foreign partners in advanced avionics systems or other science-intensive fields;
- international sales of Avionika products in partnership with foreign companies;
- intermediary services for foreign companies selling products on the Russian
market;
- development of new types of stationary and mobile medical equipment;
- simulated mechanical, climatic and integrated tests of aircraft onboard and ground equipment according to customer requests.
